The big news for the new Nissan Qashqai is a dramatic front end overhaul, that is much more striking and eye-catching. There will be no mistaking it for the current car.
The new Nissan Qashqai gets interior improvements too, with an upgraded infotainment system that now includes Google built-in.
There’s also a new Nissan Qashqai N-Design grade, for those who want sporty looks combined with family-friendly practicality.
The new Nissan Qashqai will continue to offer a choice of mild hybrid and full hybrid petrol engines, and more technical details will be released in coming weeks.
For now, it’s the new Nissan Qashqai’s visual updates that we’re focusing on, as it takes the fight to the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Tiguan, SEAT Ateca and many more.
At the front, the new Nissan Qashqai is decidedly bolder than the current car. The grille comprises dozens of 3D elements in gloss black that appear to ‘float’, flanking the sharply-cut bumper sides.
Integrated into the top of the new Nissan Qashqai’s grille are five LED running lights that mimic the ‘comma’ shapes of the main grille. Above them are ultra-slim LED bars (which double up as indicators) and a hidden high beam module.
There are fewer changes at the rear of the new Nissan Qashqai, although the lights themselves have been redesigned. There’s a new shape of bumper and, on higher grades, gloss black lower body trim.
The new Nissan Qashqai has an all-new range of alloy wheels, starting with an 18-inch diamond cut wheel. Other 19-inch and 20-inch options give the Qashqai one of the widest range of wheels in its segment.
Five of the new Nissan Qashqai’s body colours are new – Pearl White, Pearl Black and Deep Ocean. Some of the colours are available in two-tone, with a black roof. The ‘flat’ new Nissan logo also adorns the new Nissan Qashqai.
The new Nissan Qashqai has enhanced trim inside, with Alcantara now featuring extensively on N-Design and Tekna+ grades. There’s also new patterned materials for the centre console and dashboard decoration.
The new Nissan Qashqai has new seat trims, with top-spec models boasting quilted premium leather, while another interesting option is quilted synthetic leather with ‘burnt umber’ flashes.
Ambient lighting now features on N-Connecta, N-Design grades and above. The mix of red, green and blue LEDs allow front seat passengers to personalise the lighting – and the extend to the rear on higher-spec models.
A big update is the new infotainment system that features Google built-in. Drivers can sign in to their personal Google account and source favourites and points of interest from the built-in Google Maps navigation. It also includes the Google Assistant and an array of apps from the Google Play Store.
Clever features elsewhere in the new Nissan Qashqai include an enhanced around view monitor parking camera, that gives a bird’s eye view and now has an improved 3D function. There’s also an ‘invisible bonnet’ feature, that lets the drive see the position of the front wheels through the central screen.
The new Nissan Qashqai has a recalibrated Autonomous Emergency Braking system that reacts more quickly, plus intelligent speed assist using GPS data and, pleasingly, a ‘Driver Assist Custom Mode’ that lets motorists quickly tailor the safety systems they want to disable, and quickly access them via a shortcut button on the steering wheel.
The new Nissan Qashqai will continue to offer a choice of mild hybrid and full hybrid petrol engines. There will not be a plug-in hybrid version, nor is there a fully electric model.
The new Nissan Qashqai will, like all models since the first one was launched in 2007, be built in Britain. The Sunderland factory has produced more than 1.3 million Nissan Qashqai, making it the plant’s most popular model ever.
The new Nissan Qashqai N-Design is a new variant that’s expected to be very popular. It has extended body-coloured parts on the outside, unique 20-inch alloy wheels and a sportier interior with Alcantara upholstery.
