Used Hybrid Vans For Sale

Hybrid vans for sale with heycar

It wasn’t very long ago that hybrid vans weren’t really an option. If you were looking for used vans for sale you defaulted to diesel vans and there wasn’t really demand for hybrid power, which is usually more expensive to buy. However, the last few years has seen spikes in fuel prices, which combined with various bans or penalties for older diesels entering cities has sparked increased demand for hybrid and electric vans

Why buy a used hybrid van?

Van companies such as Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall have all skipped the hybrid route and moved straight to electric vans. However, most electric vans have a range on a charge of less than 200 miles, which is restrictive if you need to travel halfway across the country each day. Hybrid vans offer a great compromise as most of them are plug-in hybrid. This means the van can run in electric mode around town but has the petrol engine to rely on for longer trips, avoiding lengthy charging stops and route restrictions. Hybrid vans are also smoother, quieter and usually more economical than petrol or diesel equivalents.

What are the best makes and models of used hybrid van?

There aren’t many used or new hybrid vans for sale right now, but expect to see more available in future. The most popular hybrid vans is the Ford Transit Custom plug-in hybrid, which offers 30 miles of range on a charge and a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine for longer runs. There’s also the LEVC VN5, which uses a range extender system to offer over 60 miles of range with a petrol engine acting as a generator when that runs out. We’d also consider the Mitsubishi Outlander commercial as a used hybrid van based on an SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used hybrid van?

As used hybrid vans are relatively rare we’re not aware of any serious reliability issues. However when buying a new or used hybrid van you need to do the sums to make sure it works for you. Usually they are more expensive than petrol or diesel equivalents, but if you can’t regularly charge them up at home and or work then you won’t be saving enough fuel to justify the extra cost. Some hybrid vans also have reduced payload and towing capacities over the diesel version, too, so bear this in mind.
